History

The First Baptist Church of Lake Saint Louis was officially constituted on May 4, 1986 but for five years prior to that, many dedicated layment and pastors worked and prayed to see a small Bible study grow into a chapel and eventually a church.

In the spring of 1981 a new work probe was conducted by the Missouri Baptist Convention, First Baptist Church of Troy, Missouri funded a young minister and his family as they moved to the Lake Saint Louis area and began a home Bible study in May 1982. Glen Land and his wife Joyce opened their home two months later for worship services and ten people united wiht Lake Saint Louis Baptist Chapel on July 18, 1982.

The chapel soon outgrew the space in Reverend Land's basement and began worshipping in the Wharf Building behind the Lake Saint Louis IGA. During that time the congregation purchased and dedicated the land on Lake Saint Louis Boulevard and voted to change the name to First Baptist Church of Lake Saint Louis.

In May of 1985, Reverend Land left for a new calling in Chicago and the growing church called Phil Ball as its interim minister. Under his leadership the first new building, a worship center, was constructed, primarily with volunteer labor, and was dedicated on December 8, 1985.

In March of 1986, Reverend Bill Maupin was called as pastor and two months later, on May 4, 1986, the church officially constituted as a Southern Baptist Church with 58 charter members.

Sensing the need for additional space, a capital fund raising program was instituted and a new two story educational building was constructed, again with mostly volunteer labor. The building was completed in November 1987 just in time for the church's annual Harvest Banquet.

In the summer of 1989 Reverend Maupin and his family returned to Ohio and the church called Reverend Robert Thompson as its interim pastor. Reverend Thompson accepted the call to become the full time pastor one year later.

An addition to the original building was completed in the spring of 1991. It included offices, a conference room, and classrooms. The worship center was enlarged to accoommodate the growing church family.

The first additional staff member was added in the fall of 1993 when Melissa Saldana was called as the Music Associate. The second staff person was added in October 1995 when Steve Lawrence was called as Student Associate. The church also sponsored the Defiance Baptist Church in that community. We have in the past, sponsored a Korean ministry as well.

The Collier Activity Center was constructed in 1995 and was dedicated on Sunday, May 19, 1996. Plans are currently underway for the construction of a 1,000 seat sanctuary.

The church called Michael Milligan to be Minister of Music and Youth in June of 1998. On Easter Sunday, April 4, 1999, Dr. Steve Easterwood began his ministry as Senior Pastor of the church. With increased vision, the church added Tom Papez to the staff as our Associate Pastor of Youth on January, 21, 2001. Jim Bevins served as our Associate Pastor of Music and Worship from June 3, 2001 until April 2003. Now, Josh Moore has heard the calling and joined First Baptist Church of Lake Saint Louis as the current Associate Pastor of Music & Worship.

First Baptist Church of Lake Saint Louis is made up of people who are passionate to share God's message of good news with people locally and ultimately reaching the farthest corners of the world. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey!
